When we decided to alter our life and exit the rat race of city life we started looking for our paradise. Living on the California coast was fun, but packed regardless of what activities we picked to do. We had learned about Colorado and the big areas of openness, especially on the Western Slope with villages like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.

Flying into Grand Junction we headed east on Interstate 70 to check out Western Colorado. It was late afternoon when we reached Glenwood Springs and felt this would be a great place to spend the night and then decide on Aspen or Vail in the morning. We decided to stay at the historic Hotel Colorado and once we were checked in we wanted to discover what Glenwood Springs gave us to see. The concierge recommended some small shops to visit, but when we asked about restaurants she said it depends on the food you wish to eat. Being in Colorado I wanted a nice steak, but my wife wanted seafood like back home. I explained to her the closest ocean was too many miles away, so the seafood could never be ashigh quality as we could get at home, but she insisted. So her recommendation was a small eatery right across the bridge called Juicy Lucy’s Seafood and Steak House where we could have the best selection for both.

After visiting several unique shops we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a brief amount of time at the historic bar we sat down. As I looked over the menu I saw the right meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. Organically grilled elk sirloin shaved and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I was impressed by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the menu. I was even more impressed by their daily offerings such as; Beef Tenderloin in Tuscany Wine Sauce or Fresh fish Mequite Grilled over the BBQ. I had to inquire about the flavor and quality since it was obvious the closest real water was a long distance away. He told us they only purchase the freshest ingredients and the fish is flown in each morning six days a week. My wife selected the Sea Scallops and I have to say if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would think you were at a seafood restaurant by the beach.

Next day on the tour we decided on Aspen, and couldn’t get over the small towns from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. In this valley we could sled in the winter, jeep in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a fun event or concert almost any night. We found our heaven and knowing that regardless where we end up in the valley we were only a short trip away from the greatest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have thought that a dining area named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would help us make one of the best choices ever.
