Storage Tanks That Are For Water Heaters
When it comes to water heating in homes it is the second largest energy consumer after space heating. See to it that your water heater is operating efficiently. In improving that performance of storage sank water many things can be done which include standard electric tank units naturally vented, power vented and direct vented natural gas, propane, oil fired units, heat pump units and solar water heater units.
Keep in mind that you have to reduce the temperature setting of the water heater. Your water heater loses heat from the storage tank to its surroundings when the water is not being heated. In this case we need to reduce the temperature setting of the heater to create a reduction in the amount of heat lost from the tank between uses will occur. Make sure that the temperature in the storage tank should not be lower than 50 to 55 degrees Celsius for gas fired units and 55 to 60 Celsius for electrically powered units to eliminate bacterial growth. Do not forget to add tank insulation. Another way you can reduce the heat loss is to install additional insulation to the tank. Keep in mind that it is not good to add insulation to a water heater that is fuelled by oil.
It is important to replace the anode rod as well. Many tanks also require a device called an anode rod to prevent it from corroding. These days many water heater tanks include cold water supply tubes that act as anode rods.
Clean the inside of the tank. In fact, sediment from the intentional breakdown of the anode rod and from minerals in the water supply collects at the bottom of water heater tanks. As a result the sediment reduces the efficiency of the water heater and may cause the water heater to wear out prematurely. More resources on water tanks can be found here at Sydney Water Tanks.
Another thing why this should be cleaned is so it will not create the potential to promote the unhealthy growth of bacteria. Be sure to note that it is best that other types of water heaters are cleaned out every six to 12 months.
Have the water heater inspected. An inspection will identify the condition of the burners and heat transfer surfaces in fuel fired water heaters. Having dirty burners and heat transfer surfaces will reduce the performance of the water heater.
It is essential that you check the temperature and pressure relief valve as well. The main job of a temperature and pressure relief valve on tank type water heaters is a safety feature designed to prevent catastrophic failures of the water heater. When either the temperature or pressure in the tank exceeds certain limits the valve opens.
With these valves not used all the time so it is common for them to stick closed, increasing the severity of problems that could arise if the water heater should fail. Always remember to install the water heater on a piece of plywood over rigid insulation in order to los limited heat.
