Driver's safety is among the largest concerns in the United States today. With millions of cars on the road and even more citizens driving a lot of miles each and every day, it’s no big surprise that individuals, couples and families might develop a concern for whether they can trust in their car to keep them safe. One of the key factors that keeps car safe is something that many drivers take for granted, however. Tires are one of the car parts that can have a major impact on whether a car stays safe on the streets, particularly in hazardous driving conditions like rain, snow and ice.
One of the simplest ways to ensure that you stay safe while driving is to make sure that your car has tires that have been fully inspected. Tire testing is a detailed and extensive process that regulates which tire products can be placed on cars or put up for sale. There are tons of factors which are inspected through the tire testing process, including dynamic balance, final finish and tire geometry measurement. In addition to these factors, tire uniformity must also be measured in each and every tire inspection. That’s because a set of four tires has to be matched perfectly so that there are no problems when the car actually hits the road. Even a slight imperfection in tire uniformity may lead to serious issues with steering and driving accuracy, so tire testing companies are quick to get rid of any tires that don’t meet their standards. Rather than going on cars or up for sale, these tires are repurposed into new ones until the ideal standards are met in the tire testing process.
Many other factors are inspected in addition to tire uniformity, dynamic balance, tire geometry measurement and final finish. The tread on a tire is very important because it affects how much traction the tire has in unstable driving conditions. When tire testing proves that the tread is up to code, then the manufacturer knows that it is safe for driving on the road. The shape of any tire in also important because it obviously needs to be manufactured in a perfect circle. Shape is measured down to the tiniest fraction of a millimeter to make sure that the dimensions of the tire are absolutely spot on.
You might be wondering whether many tires meet the ideal standards held by these tire testing processes. The truth is that there are a great deal of tires that don’t meet the standards. However, even though it costs more to remake these tires than to put them up for sale, it’s worth it to the tire manufacturers to make sure that their tires not merely have a trusted reputation but also keep their drivers safe day in and day out.
