Most damage to pickup beds can be prevented with the right plastic truck bed liners. See, it is simply the nature of the material that is used for these liners to keep most damage from the bed itself and confine it to the liner. However unless you're careful in choosing a liner, the liner itself can cause problems in these ways.
The hidden water problem is just the place for rust and corrosion to get started. It's partly that the drain holes can easily get clogged. The drains are beneath the liner and thus not so easy to get to and monitor.
Then there are the shaky moves and resulting noise. Poor fitting liners often expose surfaces that may great kites to catch the wind. Places that catch wind often make lots of noise too. The noise level can border on a real irritation. Poor fits make for noisy liners that maybe turn into more trouble than the liner is worth.
There's more than just the noise too for sure. There's a wear factor as well. A shifting and sliding liner makes more than noise. A constantly shifting liner may very well wear away paint and that leads to real trouble. Those busted paint areas hidden away can be troublesome and must not stay hidden for long or serious problems are the likely result and the repair costs will be quite a surprise.
The thing is the wear is again hidden away beneath the liner and out of sight. That place may be the spot for rust to begin. What should be truck bed protection can do more harm than good.
The most expensive bed liners may really be less suited for some uses. The drop in liner is a bargain in some ways. Compare prices to spray on bed liners for example. Drop in liners work well in rough conditions. Damage a plastic bed liner, which is hard to do, and the liners are easily replaced. Make sure you have a good fit before settling with a plastic liner.
Plastic bed liners take almost any sort of abuse without the least damage to the liner or the truck. Watch those drains and get a good fit to the bed. You don't need any damage to the bed from the liner.
