When you're camping, one of the most fun things you can do is go on a hike. It is excellent exercise ; you can enjoy the outdoors, and you can see gorgeous views. But there are some dangers to hiking and you should be prepared for all events in order to remain safe and ensure you have got a good time. Planning is essential so you are not caught in a position where you are not prepared.
Utilise a backpack to store your items that you are going to take with you on a hike. Put heavier items toward the bottom to help balance your centre of balance. If hiking with a group, distribute items similarly amongst the group in the event of an accident. If a backpack is lost and it was the only one that held the water or food, you might have a difficult time.
Dress reasonably for the weather and bring a spare set of clothing. If it is cold, wear layers and make sure to wear a hat for max warmth. Wear 2 pairs of socks and good hill climbing boots so you don't slip. Wear shades and use suntan lotion. Regardless of whether it is cold, the sun can offer you a very uncomfortable burn. Also use insect repellant to guard you from pests and bites.
Bring emergency supplies in the event of an accident. This should include a medical kit, rope, a general purpose knife, matches and a flash-lamp. Always have lots of food and water. You need to keep hydrated and nourished in a hike. Beef jerky and trail mix are glorious energy boosting foods and will assist in getting you through the day. Water is critical but you can also pack drinks like Gatorade that have electrolytes. Don't go too far.
Take frequent breaks and rest when you're feeling exhausted. Pushing yourself to exhaustion is hazardous. Use a walking stick to help to keep you from getting tired and help you in climbing and keeping your balance. If you happen to feel weak or light-headed, sit down, take your backpack off, and drink and eat a little till you're feeling rested and good to go on.
Be aware of your surroundings. The beautiful landscape is a fab time to take photos or sketch. These can be delightful past times but it's also a chance to run into wild animals, snakes and suffer an accident from not paying attention. Do not venture off trails into brush that may contain snakes or other deadly creatures. You may want to carry bear repellant and a whistle if you come across a wild animal. A whistle can also be handy if you fall or are encircled.
Research the area where you'll be hiking and plan what you'll need to take in an appropriate way. Don't be shocked by unexpected climate changes. Take photographs and sightsee. Enjoy the outdoors and have a lot of fun, but be safe and prepared for anything. With a bit of planning, you should be capable of making the most of your hiking experience.
