It won't take long to be moving fast with this technique. Your stance technique will dictate how you'll be pushing-off, as well. If you're a beginner, mainly stay on level surface and use a board that's strong and well-built. It's best if you can firmly plant your feet without fumbling around if you're on an uneven surface. As you improve, of course this will be less of a concern. Deal with your fears. Many new skateboarders are too scared to do too much too quickly. They understand very fast that there's not much in the way between being safe and getting injured. You just gotta come to terms with this thought if you ever want to be a good skater. If you never get over the fear you won't ever be able to do much on a skateboard except sit still and watch others do tricks. The only real way to get over this is to keep practicing.
