The Inside Track On The MacBook Pro Winter 2011 Release
The MacBook Pro had been first released in 2006, updating the PowerBook G4. Made for professionals on the run, Apple continued to refine their family of high-performance notebook computers every year.
The latest release, called the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011, represents a substantial improvement in a number of important characteristics.
Advantages
Speed has been improved tremendously with the new "Sandy Bridge" generation of Intel Core I processors. The 13-inch model obtained a substantial processor upgrade going from the old Core 2 Duo processor to a very fast Intel Core i5 2620M. The real breakthrough however, will be the quad core processor which will drive the 15-inch and 17-inch models, loved by Final Cut Pro users. While 4 GB will be the minimum memory shipped, you can get up to 16 GB for an additional cost. Graphics is regarded as the demanding use of these kinds of machines, and the AMD Radeon HD 6490M enables them to set new speed records. For the most demanding consumers, the Radeon HD 6750M could be included as an alternative. Do not be concerned about missing out on life of the battery, since the Intel HD Graphics 3000 operates very efficiently. With these kinds of performance improvements, the new 2011 models virtually soar in the benchmarks.
The actual connection for the Apple LED Cinema Display has been upgraded to a new technology as well. With the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook, a fairly new type of technology by Intel called Thunderbolt has been applied which makes the port a lot more flexible. Along with speeds up to 12 times faster than the old FireWare 800 interface, high capacity hard drives will finally get the performance boosts that they depend on for professionals to transfer considerable amounts of data. It's also flexible enabling devices to daisy-chain off of a single Thunderbolt channel without having performance degradation.
The second main enhancement is the built-in webcam which is no longer referred to as iSight camera but the FaceTime HD camera which shares its name with the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 cameras. Apple has established 720p as the brand new standard resolution for video phone calls using the FaceTime HD camera.
Disappointments
Just one major element that hasn't been improved however, is the battery, which suggests it will now last a shorter time between charges. Nevertheless, with as much as 7 hours of energy while the wireless is running, it is hard for competing multimedia laptops to have that battery life. The MacBook Pro 13-inch in addition will get a minor downgrade as it uses the Intel integrated graphics without an AMD or NVIDIA counterpart. Gaming performance is a tad slower but the Intel HD 3000 graphics is so much better than previous generations and also it is just as efficient.
Summary
Every single Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook reaches a completely new level of speed and even the older products are still outstanding in overall performance and longevity. Brand new MacBook Pro buyers can be assured that they will be able to run the most demanding software programs for the foreseeable future.
