One of the best parts about this vacation is decorating the Xmas tree. It is a lot of fun to ask your kids to give a hand in tree decorations. Children would surely enjoy using various festoons and Xmas lights. The following hints and suggestions will help you a lot when its time to use these lights.
1. Avoid using nails or staple guns to stick lights on your tree. These kind of sharp objects might break the wire and the results could be harmful. Any uncovered wire is a big hazard to all the friends and members of the family. So, be very careful any time you're putting up the lights. Try to use plastic clips, tie wires and such fasteners that are risk-free and specially made for the lights. You can get special insulated staples that are safe to use on lights and wires too. Go for such safer alternatives. Make sure that the Xmas lights are in safe working condition and the wires are covered.
2. Go through all the essential safety guidelines on the lights very carefully before using them. It might seem too much for a holiday, but you will agree that the safety of the people is important than anything else.
3. If you plan to purchase lights for your Xmas tree, go for the LED Xmas lights alternative. These lights are environment-friendly, not too costly and brighter compared to other lights. Moreover, these lights are quite long lasting.
4. Whether you've bought new lights or you use last years' lights, check if the bulbs are working properly and that the wires completely covered. The sockets must be okay and the wires should be in proper functioning condition.
5. Seal all the sockets using an electrical tape. The tape will assure you that the connections are unbroken. It will keep water or any liquid from getting into the electric points.
6. Limit the number of extension wires you use. These could be a danger. You do not any circuit overload or a power failure in festival time. Therefore, connect the lights according to the safety guidelines of the manufacturer.
7. Take all precautions whenever you're actually fixing the lights on the tree. Use a wooden ladder and wear rubber slippers. Keep kids away when you're doing electric work. Ensure that you stay well clear from the main power line.
8. You must keep the Christmas lights on only when you're awake at home. When you step out, you must turn them off. You must always exist when lights are on.
9. Even during the festival at what time you have visitors, check if all lights are undamaged and all connections are okay. This little inspection will take only a few minutes, but they could save big accidents.
10. After the festival, you must remove the lights carefully and pack them nicely for later use. Do not leave extension chords or wires inside the house. Pick them up and place them at a safe place.
