A laser rangefinder is a vital component for percussion hunting that is to often overlooked. If distances are important to your activity you need a laser rangefinder. The accurate range to target information is an essential variable due to the fact that rocks, trees, hills, lakes, and rivers have a tendency to distort your depth perception even over short distances.

For hunters rangefinders are used to measure shot distance. Whatever your game, distance is the most critical factor in placing an effective shot. Bow hunters would never go hunting with out their rangefinder, they know the difference between 40 yards and 45 yards is the difference between success and failure.

Now lets discuss how they work. A laser rangefinder calculated the distance to an object by bouncing a laser beam off the object to measure the time in flight which is the amount of time it takes the laser beam to leave the rangefinder, bounce off your target and return to the rangefinder. A high speed digital clock measures the time in flight which usually takes less than one second. The rangefinder then calculates the distance and displays it on the screen.

Rangefinders provide an accurate distance to your target beyond point blank range. Many models have the ability to measure distances to targets up to 1500 yards, almost a mile, and can be accurate under nearly any condition. Due to these facts rangefinders are commonly used with great success by military, golfers, hunters, and archers with lethal percussion.
