Choosing a Distribution Software Package That Fits Your Company
For companies mainly concerned with the distribution of goods throughout the supply chain, integrated distribution software is an absolute must. Supply chains today are almost completely digital. Proper benchmarking is critical. Benchmarking is crucial when looking at the systems that are in place, and determining if a new product will produce sufficient ROI in a certain time period. When a company sets a benchmark, they are able to make direct comparisons making sure that if they were to bring on a new system, they will have results that are easier to predict. While you won't be absolutely accurate when predicting system performance, being able to compare your benchmark against other distribution software will certainly help when choosing a program that outperforms your current system where it matters.

While the number one concern when purchasing a new manufacturing software suite may be benchmarking, a close secondary concern lies in the system’s interface. It could cause some pretty serious delays if users can't get a hang of the interface when the system is put in place. This can be achieved by using a web front end that will be instantly recognizable to users or by building a custom interface that looks and feels like that of the prior system. This last option, however, is usually not the best choice due to the potential of being forced to rebuild the interface after every upgrade.
Between realistic and rigorous benchmarking and ensuring efficient employee adoption through a user-friendly interface, success with a new distribution software system can be all but guaranteed.
